Boat Construction
Corrugated boxes, cardboard tubes, clear packing or duct tape are allowed in boat construction. You are encouraged to bring a measuring tool, straight edge and a non-powered cutting tool to do the job. Corrugated cardboard, some tube and clear packing tape will be available on site. Limited tools and wooden broomsticks will also be available for your use. Children under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult during the construction phase.
Suggested procedure:
1. Research different boat hull designs and the theory of buoyancy.
2. Choose a style and plan your design.
3. Build the boat bottom first.
4. Use the dull side of the knife for scoring to make a fold, making it easier to bend pieces into shape. More folding, less cutting helps! Tape any open areas where inside corrugation can get wet.
5. Don't forget to design a paddle method that works for you.
