The Reverend Steven Smith, pastor of the Wadhams United Church of  Christ, received a certificate recognizing his full reception into the United Church of Christ, with ordained ministerial standing in  Essex Association on Sunday, November 23, 2008. Regional Conference Minister, the Rev. Marian P. Shearer, will  presented the certificate. As guest pastor, she spoke using Ephesians 1:15-23 and the gospel for the day, Matthew 25:31-46. Her sermon title was “I never stop giving thanks for you.”

To become certified, the Rev. Smith, undertook a course of study, wrote a thesis, and discussed his work with colleagues. Coming to the ministry via the Baptist and the Methodist traditions, Rev. Smith was serving as the Protestant Campus Minister at SUNY Plattsburgh before  being called to the Wadhams church in 2004. Currently, he is also a chaplain and bereavement coordinator for High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care, based in Port Henry, NY.
