The Family and Crew

You can see some of us in "costume" when we received the Small Business of the Year Award

Jim started out pumping gas for tips when he was too young to actually work at the marina. Age finally permitted a real summer job. The family buying the marina his Junior year at Union College ('83) provided direction for a major, allowing B.A. in Managerial Economics.

Jim brought computers to the marina and developed 99% of the code for the website. Earning his USCG 100-Ton Ships Master License in '97.

For fun, Jim has learned the "art of inflation" and twists balloon sculptures (yes, that means hats & animals) at local events. Up-close magic is next :-)

Larry handles the mechanical side of the business. With a degree in Automotive Mechanics & Technology from Hudson Valley Community College, he easily transfered his skills to the marine environment. Factory training from Onan, OMC, Volvo-Penta, Yamaha, Zodiac and others, keeps him up-to-date. He has a 100 Ton Master certification from the Coast Guard.

Dee (Mom) keeps a steady hand at the tiller in the Galley Restaurant and Bar. Originally trained and certified as an Art Therapist, she enjoys creating the brochures for the marina and arranging the entertainment for the summers.

In the off season, Dee sings with the Plattsburgh chapter of Sweet Adelines, a women's barbershop chorus. In 1998, they placed quite well in a regional competition.

Bob (Dad) retired from Albany Medical College as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Preventive and Community Medicine. He provides support for the computers and the accounting work, serves as "tech" for the shipstore e-mail questions, as well as handling inflatable sales.

Bob taught Lifeguarding, Water Safety and First Aid for 48 years. For many years he served as Co-Director of the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York, National Aquatic and Small Craft School on Lake George.

Having built scale model ships for years, Bob worked with the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum on the creation of the replica of the Philadephia, Benedict Arnold's gunboat from the Revolutionary War. His small scale model served for fund raising for construction of the full-size replica.

Lane manages our on-site ship store with an extensive selecton of unusual gifts year round.
